Let’s talk about this election some more! How do you see social media playing a role in the election? Choose a video, post, meme, or other material from social media that either has influenced you, or that you believe is influencing other people as relates to the election. We only have 1 week left until election day… did you get involved in trying to get out the vote, or supporting a specific candidate? Why/why not? And did you vote yet? What has your experience been like, participating in the election?

Our election is something that carries a lot of weight when it comes to our future here in the United States. As we’ve seen in history, the position of being a President is a big deal. We are talking about who is selected to be our country’s “leader” in a way. Election day is huge for us, deciding who we want to lead us to have a more successful and improving future. When it comes to choosing and narrowing down who we want to vote for it can be a tough choice. We want a person who supports our own personal wants and needs, a person who is responsible, trustworthy, and just overall a good leader. In today’s world social media plays a huge part in our choice for who we want to be elected. I think that it can be good for a president but also bad. For our current president it was more on the bad side. It got to the point where Donald Trump actually wanted to take down a social media site because of all the commotion it started. (TikTok). But a positive social media example is on YouTube we have the opportunity to watch the debates of the parties if we missed them, we also can see interviews of each party that may not be on television. On snapchat and instagram they also have a few widgets where they are reminding people to vote, many instagram pages of famous people and others who have influence reminding people to vote, just positive things which don’t deter a person from choosing one side or the other. Then you have your troll accounts making a specific party look bad and the people who support them look bad also. Personally I think all of it is a mess because people accuse and say things that may or may not be true about a party and rumors can never be good especially when it comes to something important like election runners. Social media posts influence people heavily especially the ones on tiktok because most of tik tok people are minors and they may not know any better. The tik toks aren’t very long either, maybe 10 second videos. But something as simple as what I’ve attached in the email can easily sway a kid or person to think something like “wow he seems like a good person to be a president.” Meanwhile they’re is a lot more going on behind the scenes probably. The problem with social media is people fail to incorporate both sides of the story. They may either mention just the good and hide the bad or vise versa. I have not gotten involved in voting. In the future I may not also. I say that because what I want may not ever come. But I just want a person who everyone likes that everyone can agree on which will bring everyone together. Instead of cultures battling and doing all of this fighting which causes race wars and separation. This may never happen but I want some peace and togetherness here in the United States. So far politics do nothing but separate us as a country it seems. Divided. So until there is a president whom everyone can side on and will influence us to actually comfort one another and want us to spread love instead of hate to our neighbors, my vote shall not be submitted. I am hearing bad stuff about both party leaders which is normal but the type of stuff that came out about the party leaders is why I am standing out of this one.
